Although our German insurance partner Gothaer has flexible rules for our Ecoplant products, this is not always the case; we recently encountered stricter interpretations of insurance regulations. A customer of Ecoplant had submitted a claim through their household insurance for damage to their Ecoplant.

During this process, several key points came to our attention: The insurer appointed an expert to assess the damage, and the initial feedback was positive and cooperative.
However, in the expert’s report, it was suggested that insufficient maintenance had been carried out, leading to the rejection of the claim.

This was, of course, quite unfortunate. We assisted the customer in reviewing the report and, fortunately, were able to provide evidence of regular maintenance through invoices and records. As a result, the claim was fully paid out in the end.

The expert’s main argument was that, in his opinion, the customer had not done any maintenance and larded his report with photos, which were unknown to everyone, that did not belong to the claim at all.

Needless to say, a very strange course of action and extremely malicious. Regardless, we were fortunately able to prove for the customer that periodic maintenance had indeed been performed.

With the photo report of our periodical maintenance, the customer could fortunately resolve the issue quickly and was eventually fully reimbursed.

What is the learning moment here?

  1. Make sure you have proper coverage by checking carefully with your insurance policy against theft, fire, vandalism or wind damage.
  2. Register your unit if you have it covered under your home contents insurance.
  3. For good measure, your unit must be on built-up property.
  4. Always conduct a claims consultation with the insurance, with your own surveyor.
  5. Maintain your installation properly and keep the report and bill of periodic maintenance
  6. Obviously, we are happy to advise you, alternatively you can take out a special Ecoplant insurance.

An Ecoplant insurance is certainly not expensive and periodic maintenance is covered by a service contract that also covers the call-out costs.

This ensures care and maintenance and your installation will also be cleaned annually.
